  1. First thanks for the update. I always check your blog out first for latest info and appreciate the work you do,
In terms of reaction...Walking and hiking! That is crazy. I think one or other. And heavily weighted towards steps with running walking hiking. All these badges relate to steps. The yoga and strength challenges been pushing me hard so disappointed that these badges are moved away from the consistency of yoga and strength hours. Pleased swimming becomes a staple but again for my whole body fitness would have liked to see a month challenge and not a week.

    1. I didn't think about how much walking it will be. 4 hours of hiking + ~10 hours of walking. That is a lot. I train 1-3 hours per day so about 14 hours per week. That is a whole week's training...just walking.

  2. I find the two-week cycling one quite tough as it dominates my training, but at least the 40km weekend cycling is part of that this time, rather than outside it.

Quite a boring set up of challenges though, to be honest.

    1. Yes. It is a lot tougher than it looks. That was the hardest one this month imo.

  3. Bonjour et merci pour ces infos, je consulte ce blog depuis peu. J'ai une question à propos des badges type fête nationale, je ne parviens jamais à les obtenir m

    1. You must change the country to right one to get them.
For example the Mid-Autumn Festival you need to change to Philippines or Taiwan.
      You change country here: https://www.garmin.com/account/profile/

    2. I checked other countries celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival and the badges is also available in Japan, S Korea, Mainland China, Hong Kong (but not Macau), Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. As you can tell I had time to kill this morning!

    3. Thanks for the great update!
I added all your countries and even some extra. I saw that the badge for Mid-Autumn Festival and the one for International Workers' Day got almost the same countries so I tested those countries and found out that they got the same country requirements.
The list is now: Mainland China (中国大陆), Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Republic of, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam

    4. Thanks Andy - now, as others have said, to work out how to do all those step-based activities in September. I have to say now that I’ve reached level 5 I feel a little less drive to do them all!

    5. My plan is to do lunch walks to get the walking done. In the morning I usually do 1 hour of running or biking and then at lunch time 30 minutes of walking.

  4. Merci, j avais pourtant essayé le 9 août en mettant Singapour avant d enregistrer une activité et rien. Faut il tenir compte du décalage horaire? Désactiver la localisation gps?

    1. The one in Singapore was a bit odd. It was not available on the 9th. It was awarded on the 10th for the first activity done on the 9th.
Timezone and GPS doesn't matter. If you do an activity with the correct country set it works.
I did a test now and lost my Singapore badge. I then switched back to Singapore, made an edit to the activity on the 9th and got the badge back.

    2. Thanks for the tip I lost mine and got it back again.

    3. Hi, thanks for your blog.
I'd like to add some info - when I picked some foreign badges using change country settings, some of these badges have dissappeared after some period. Maybe Garmin checks whether country setting is made too often ... ?

      Delete
    4. I don't think so. I got all of my badges still left. If an edit occurs to an activity that required a certain country the activity will be reevaluated and you will lose that badge if you now got a different country setting. You can easily get them back by changing the country again and make an edit to the activity that got you the badge the first time.

  5. Is there no 3 mile walk badge in September?

    1. No. Not enough walking with the other challenges? 😉

    2. I do all the walking and running challenges.

  6. If I will run for example 24.9. 15km. Will I get both running badges? 5k and 15k also?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The general rule is that with the same activity you can't get badges that are related. If you click a badge and scroll down you will see the related badges.
5K and 15K are not related so it should work.

  7. Seems like the distance covered in hiking is included for the walking badge \o/

    1. That would be great but the last time someone reported that it was because he changed the type from walking to hiking for an activity. The distance is updated on the next walk. Did you change the type of an activity?

      Delete
    2. I did change the activity from walking to hiking. Shall check if the distances change after my next walk

      Delete
    3. Right that was disappointing, the distance reduced after my next walk ... hiking should count as a walking activity!

      Delete
    4. Try this: record 4 hrs of hiking, after the hiking badge is awarded, edit the activities and change the type of activity to walking. The hiking badge won't disappear and the activities will be counted towards the walking challenges. 😉

  8. I see October is up now. Another rinse and repeat, nothing exciting in there. Hopefully the "Garmin Ride Out for Action Medical Research in the New Forest" is not tied to the location. And it looks like they might be experimenting with some partner promotions like Strava does, eg do 25 hrs of activity to get $25 off etc. I hope not as these badges are usually fluff!

    1. Not quite rinse and repeat; cycling has weekend, week and monthly challenges in one month for the first time (and quarterly as well with the Stage 4), which as a cyclist I like.

    2. I wonder if those promotional challenges will go live. They look a bit odd. The texts are for June.

  9. Mid-Autumn Festival: I know the badge looks the same, but the name has changed, so it might be worth checking next week even if you have it already.
