Other badges in April

This is a bit odd. Garmin added a new Songkran Festival badge when there already are three for the same festival.
  • Songkran Festival 2022, Record an activity during Songkran Festival, April 13-15, country: Thailand
  • Songkran Festival badges - 3 badges (Super SoakerGet Soaked and Make a Splash) that require one activity each from April 13 to April 15. You can do them all in one day or spread them out. Country: Thailand
  • Garmin Olathe Marathon Full 2022, Run the Garmin Olathe Marathon full marathon in Olathe, Kansas, on April 23, 2022.
  • Garmin Olathe Marathon Half 2022, Run the Garmin Olathe Marathon half marathon in Olathe, Kansas, on April 23, 2022.
  • Garmin Olathe Marathon 10K 2022, Run the Garmin Olathe Marathon 10K in Olathe, Kansas, on April 23, 2022.
  • Cherry Blossom, Record an activity during Golden Week, April 29-30, 2022, country: Japan

Web site updates

  • The Challenges page now got a checkbox to switch between metric and statute units. The setting is saved in a browser cookie.
  • Updates to the Challenges page to make it more mobile friendly and easier to read and focus on what is important.

Updates to this post

  • 2022-03-30 - The challenges April 15K and April Tour are now also published.
  • 2022-04-13 - Songkran Festival 2022 published and verified to be country Thailand. The Garmin Olathe Marathon badges published.
  • 2022-04-17 - The three Songkran Festival badges, Super Soaker, Get Soaked and Make a Splash, were not awarded. Something failed on Garmin's side. Garmin might fix it afterwards. If they do that you just have to make an edit to the activities logged during the festival to get the badges. The badges are still possible to get that way for previous years. At least for year 2019 and 2021. I haven't tested with 2020 which was a year when Garmin skipped the badges for Songkran Festival. Note that they are not repeatable so if you already have them from 2019 or 2021 you can't get them again.
  • 2022-04-20 - Garmin has back dated all Golden Week badges to 2021 so we don't know if they will be available this year. Probably not.

  1. (4 hours)Why does Garmin not have the strength, walking (30 miles) monthly challenge badges every month?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because they can't have too many badges. The gains badge is usually only every second month, but during the winter months it was every month. Almost the same with the walking badge.
For walking you got the stage 1-4 badges. That will be 30 miles of walking per month.

    2. That’s ridiculous! Not everyone runs or bikes… there should be monthly badges for all activities!

      Delete
  2. I accept all the challenges but i didn’t see/het month challenges april 15k and april your. The rest of the challenges i got and see also the badges in avaible. Did more people get the same problem or any solutions?

    1. Yes, No 15k run and 400k Biking challenges yet, same as you.

    2. I am seeing the 400km bike

    3. No tour or 15k visible for me yet.

  3. Thanks Aman for the reaction

  4. Golden week not listed in garmin.com and it occurs in May this year so probably next month. Songkran only showing 1 badge this year that I can see instead of the usual 3, but not repeatable.

Loving the 400km biking, gonna be smashing the trainer this month!

  5. It would be nice if there was an Easter badge for those countries where it is a holiday.

  6. What do we know about the Olathe events. The Olathe site has downloadable courses. Can we use those on the required date to complete the course virtually and get the badge?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can use the course and run it virtually but you must log it as a real run so it is cheating the system in some way and might need some tricks to make it work.

    2. cool, thnx. see how we go

    3. e7andy, have you ever get a badge like the Olathe Marathon ones without running there?
If so, could you please how to proceed to obtain them?
      Thanks!

    4. I've tested it. I downloaded a course and then used Fit File Repair Tool to convert it to an activity and uploaded it to Garmin and got the race badge. I haven't done any virtual running. For Edge devices it works to bike a route virtually, but it isnt as easy with a watch as far as I know.

      Delete
    5. Correction: Not just Edge devices. Virtual cycling works with all devices.

      Delete
    6. Yes I've done virtual cycle badges with the fenix6 using a downloaded course. Interestingly, the fenix resets its time and date from my timezone to the location of the virtual course for the duration of the activity, then sets it back to my home timezone on completion. That means to get a badge on a virtual course, you need to complete it at the right time for the virtual not your own location.

    7. e7andy, if you converted the course into an activity and you have a real activity recorded, I think you can use the procedure mentioned in "Merging a Garmin and Zwift RGT Cycling File using OptiSync" to upload the data from your real race with the GPS data from the course-activity.
I am not sure, nevertheless, if it will work because of the number of GPS points both fit files have (vourse-activity file has less points).

Maybe that is the way to run virtually...

    8. Rouvy allows you to run the routes virtually

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. First verify that you see the badges as available. You can get them before you see them there. They are not repeatable so if you already got them you can't get them again.
You should at least get the new Songkran Festival 2022 if the country is set to Thailand. Double check the country setting: https://www.garmin.com/account/profile/

    3. Maybe you already have them. They are not repeatable.

      Delete

      Delete
    5. I did a few tests and there is something wrong with the 3 Songkran badges. They are not rewarded today. Just continue to do activities the following two days.

      Delete
    6. can the Songkran badges be completed on a trainer and left as virtual ride or does it need to be changed to an actual ride?

      Delete
    7. Any activity counts for the badges. The only requirement is that it is logged with a Garmin device.

      Delete
    8. completed a central park loop on the tacx app no badge. sent that route to the garmin edge 1030 and was able to get the Songkran 2022 badge by rerunning the route on the garmin device but unable to obtain the others.

  11. Did my 3rd activity on April 14 after 2 activities on April 13th. But still only one single Songkran badge in my wallet. I agree, that there is something wrong. Country set to Thailand, of course.

    Replies
    1. just change the date of the activity to last year's Songkran dates, and you'll get the badges

      Delete
  12. I hope they fix it! I was really looking forward to collecting these badges. Did 3 activities yesterday and a 4th today, and so far I've only gotten the 2022 badge. :'(

    Replies
    1. Have you tried editing the year to 2021 or 2020 ?

      Delete
    2. It works for an activity 2021 so Garmin has probably forgot to change the dates in the backend. The dates for the frontend has been changed to 2022.

  13. Hi e7andy. In 2022, Golden Week is from May 3rd(Tues) to May 5th(Thurs). However April 29th(Fri) is also a national holiday and considered part of the GW celebration but it is not officially part of GW. I believe we will see the GW badges for 2022 in May this year.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Garmin had updated the dates for those badges to 2022, but when I checked now, Garmin had changed back the dates for those 3 badges to 2021. I will check again closer to Golden Week.

  14. Hi Andy,
did you install any update on the site? I can't proceed to "add your badges" and all previous seems have diseappered...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! It is now fixed. Why your data disappeared is that the parser always deletes all previous data first and then adds the new. I made a mistake in the code that adds the new badges so it stopped before it could add the new data.

    2. all is OK now; thank you Andy

  15. Hi! Mr.Andy, I have 2 questions for Garmin Olathe Marathon Full 2022, on April 23, 2022.
    - Can I start run on 11:59 pm on 23'Apr and finish it in 5:00 am on 24'Apr ?
    - Running at THAILAND can get this badge ?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi! You must start the run on the correct day. You can run with country set to Thailand. The most important requirement is that you run the actual course in Olathe, Kansas.

  16. Hallo, beste Andy. Mvg, Rik

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is no country restriction. You only need to log a course at the correct location and on the correct day. Not sure about the time, but previously that hasn't made any difference. It must also be logged as running.
If you post a link to the activity, I can take a look at it and see what might be wrong.

    2. I did test on my test account and got the Olathe 10k badge. Here is the link to the activity: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/8693427660
My running pace is always that even :-)

      Delete

      Delete
    4. You must use the correct course and log the GPS track at that location. What you can do is to merge your FIT file data with the FIT file for the course. You might need to convert the course to an activity. Use Fit File Repair Tool to convert a course to an activity. Use Gotoes to merge data from multiple files.
The idea with this badge is that you should run the actual race. This is all tricks that can be used to get it without following the rules for the badge.
