Thnx! Just checking, but I assume you need to run in Thailand (GPS-data) to be able to get the Garmin Run Thailand badges, like the Kansas badges on October 15th?
ReplyDeleteLikely, but we don't know until the badges are released. Usually if you see the badges as available without changing country you need to be in the country. If you need to change country to see the badges you can usually take them anywhere.
DeleteSo you know already? Do I have to reserve some time on Christmas day or can we have a day off? 😄 Would love to know, thanks so much
DeleteWe can't know for sure until race day. The badges are only available with country setting Thailand which usually indicates that you only need to change the country setting, but it might also require that you do the activity at location. It can only be verified December 25th.
DeleteAny update on these?
DeleteYou must change country to Thailand and run in Thailand so most people will not get those badges.
DeleteSolstice badge worked for Hong Kong. A few new things in Jan, looking forward to your update.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I will make a post soon. Some interesting stuff like the Tacx badges.
DeleteIt seems odd the Solstice badge is not repeatable but the badge design changed. My friend got it today for the first time and when I view it says I haven't received it, but I can't since I already have it. Seem odd to you or is this normal?
ReplyDeleteNVM... it worked with Hong Kong.
DeleteHey, just wondering if you know the background as to why international events (like the solstices for example) are only available if you are in specific countries? I expect there is a reason but also expecting it isn't a robust reason. There seems to be an imbalance towards Asia? Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteMany of the regional badges are Asian festivals. The Solstice is celebrated in the Winter Solstice Festival (Dongzhi) which is one of the most important festivals in China. I don't know about any Western festivals for the winter solstice.
DeleteI believe that it is the regional offices of Garmin that suggests and/or add badges and they are just much better at that than the other regions.

ReplyDeleteHello, Merry Christmas for All
ReplyDeleteToday I've made 10k run and didn't receive Thailand Run badge, so I think that gps track from this location is needed. Thx
Yes. It looks like it is like that. I have done some testing with activities logged in Thailand, but couldn't get any badge that way either. So, I don't know exactly how these ones work.
