  1. Thanks for the update. I was beginning to think that Garmin had forgotten about December, maybe waiting for signoff for the CHPT2 challenge ? I wonder whether the CHPT2 badge will have any points ? Can I suggest you highlight that Finish Strong and Strong Start are repeatable ?

    1. Thanks. I've added "Repeatable" to those badges.

    2. Thanks e7andy for the information about the challenges 😁

    3. Thank you very much! Still waiting for the badges to appear in my profile, but al least now I know they will appear.

  2. Still no Christmas badge. Garmin must don't believe in being in the Christmas spirit.

    1. good idea to send Garmin an email with your super suggestion

  3. Lot's of cycling... in a wet & flat Dutch December. Maybe a good excuse to ask Santa for an early present like an indoor bike trainer ;-)

Does anyone know whether indoor bike activities, e.g. using Zwift, count for the cycling distance and/or climbing challenges? Would it depend on whether the bike trainer actually communicates data to my watch, e.g. speed (Tacx Boost), or simulated incline (Tacx Neo & Flux)?

    1. Zwift will not work for challenges. You could probably use Zwift, then download fit File and run it through Fit File Repair Tool and switch device and then upload it to Garmin again.
I watch TV series when I'm on the trainer so I log it with my Edge.

    2. Activities logged with Tacx Training application count though. You can check it out here: https://cloud.tacx.com/

    3. One further note: tacx app is working only with Tacx trainers.

    4. I use Zwift but unfortunately it doesn't communicate well with Garmin and the activities do not count for the challenges (but somehow they count towards your cycling goal if you set up one). To go around this I record an activity on my Garmin watch and enter the data (distance, elevation) in the activity and then it works. It's a good thing to do anyway in case of Zwift crashing which is quite common. Hope that helps.

    5. Thanks all for sharing your experiences - I ordered the Tacx Neo 2T and can't wait to try it out and finally get a cycling climb badge... These were literally 'out of reach' for someone living in Amsterdam (highest bridge I could find was 15 meter ascent, so that would require 202 times up and down for the 10,000 feet badge)

    6. Tacx trainer works great! Only disadvantage for now is that it doesn't connect with my fenix 5 series watch and/or HRM tri chest band... Apparently "smart trainer" is a feature available on fenix 6 (and similar), as well as selected Edge models. So for now I'll simultaneously log my activities in the Tacx training app for distance, cadence, ascend etc., and on my watch for the heart rate. @e7andy: thank for suggesting the Fit file repair tool: downloaded but didn't have time to try it out yet.
Interesting side-note: I also have vector power paddles and there is, as expected, a difference (in my case ~8%) between power measured at the paddles (avg. 228 W) and power measured at the hub (avg. 208 W): my bike is pretty old with only 2 x 7 speed gears. The difference is supposed to correspond with friction losses (assuming that my frequent vector paddles calibrations are accurate)

  4. Very odd, still none of these are showing on my challenge page to sign up for...

    1. Almost midday Dec 1 here in Australia and the badges still aren't showing up, I guess someone is a bit slow to push the button this time.
Very grateful for e7andy for publishing these every month!

  5. It looks that TPMH is going virtual (check their website). Will the badges be available for everyone who runs relevant distance anywhere? Or how it will work?

    1. It is unlikely that the badges will be for the virtual race. It hasn't been like that for previous races that was changed to virtual. But we can only speculate. It is for Garmin to decide.

    2. The badges are not public yet even if the races are in 4 days so another solution for Garmin could be to just not publish them.

  6. Some challenges are up now but not the 12 days of fitness ones yet, and not this CHPT3 one

    1. 12 days is likely up latest on Saturday (two days before they start). I've made an appointment in my calendar to join them on that day.
I still check every morning for them to add them to the site.

  7. Hi, the winter solstice badge is for any country? it is not present in the garmin badge database.

    1. It is likely for all countries. It hasn't been published by Garmin yet.

    2. Garmin should just make it a Solstice badge. That allows for us in the southern hemisphere to recognise the summer solstice.

    3. Winter solstice badge is only available for Hong Kong ☺️

    4. Yes. It is very odd. If you or anyone finds another country that works then please tell me.

    5. I keep you posted e7andy ;-)

  8. Winter Solstice badge also works for Japan and Taiwan, maybe some other Asian countries ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It works with Taiwan, but I can't see it with Japan.
I've also tested Indonesia, Mainland China, Malaysia.

    2. Fyi, I have rechecked a couple of times and Japan definitely works for me.

      Delete
    3. For me Japan does not work.

      Delete
    4. Test by switching to a country that doesn't work like Sweden. Check that the badge isn't available. Then switch to Japan and see if the badge is available.

      Delete
    5. For Italy it doesn't work ...

      Delete
    6. currently only TAIWAN and HONG KONG

    7. well, if we look at the dish on the image :) internet search says it's a traditional Winter Solstice east asian dish - Tangyuan.

  9. For some strange reason changing to Japan took several hours to come through to my account as not available for this badge. When I check other countries the badges availability (or not) updated almost immediately.

  10. Hi Andy,
looking at the badges top scorers' list, I notice that all have the badges for which a Garmin Legacy Hero watch is needed...but most fo them didn't catch the badge "add a XXX watch to your account".
So, there's something possible to do get these badges without the related watch...
Could you please explain how to proceed
    Thanks and best regards

    1. You edit the activity file and set the right watch. It was a lot easier when I did it before year 2020. Back then you could use TCX files to get badges. TCX files are XML files so you can edit them with any text editor. Now you must use FIT files which are harder to edit.
