Join the June challenges now in Garmin Connect.
There is a new feature in Garmin called Garmin Trails. Garmin has published trails that we can follow. We can add reviews and photos to Garmin Trails and also run or hike them and of course get badges for doing that. At least 16 new badges!

The Trailblazer badge is a bit odd since we already got an old Trailblazer badge for creating a segment.

About the 'Beat yesterday" badges? So you're screwed if you do a long walk/run on one of the first days?
ReplyDeleteI was trying to figure that out. I have a couple half marathons in June but I do usually do a short warm up that I typically don’t record. But I was curious if I record the warm up that is like 10 minutes and then the half marathon that will be like 2.5 hours, do I just need to increase the shorter run by 5 minutes which is doable or do I have to increase the longer run in which I do not have the time to progressively add 5 minutes to 2.5 hours in 10 out of 14 consecutive days
DeleteIf you do short walk/run the next day the progress should reset.
DeleteQuestion is what happens if you do a 5 minute run on day 1 then a 2 hour run day 2 and then a 10 minute run on day 3. Will you have a progress of 2 or 1?
DeleteIt is probably safest to just follow the simple rule of increasing each run with 5 minutes and not add longer runs in between or the same day.
It seems very difficult to keep adding 5 mins if you are like most people who i imagine do a reasonably random mixture of shorter and longer activities across the days and weeks of the month, but let's see what way it is implemented I guess.
DeleteI agree it is silly but I am obsessed with Garmin badges. I am just going to start with 5 minutes and only record 5 minutes more each day. If I do a longer run I will record the amount I need stop it and record the rest as a cardio activity. Again this seems silly. I also wasn’t sure if you did 2 runs per day if it would add them so I could just stop the run every time I reach my goal for the day
DeleteYou can record the other, longer walks as Hike and keep the short, increasing walks for the badge. Or you can even stop every day, save the walk, and continue as hike. This way you'll have the walks increasing every day
DeleteThe issue with that would be not getting credit towards all the other walk badges like walk streak, time to walk, etc but I guess using 1 mile as the baseline on day 1 would help with that a bit as you would keep walking streak then.
DeleteAh, yes, I haven't thought about the time to walk. Well that is indeed a problem.
DeleteI just plan on doing my daily 1 mile walk and add some more miles the next day to get 5 miniutes more, etc. Not really that hard to do. In the end you get the Walk time and Steps for month and quarterly goals. After all the challenge is to do more.
DeleteI see the badges and it says if you record multiple walks (and I assume runs) per day it will just count the longest so you can just stop and record multiple walks so if you are going on an hour walk but only walked 10 minutes the day before and don’t want to have to walk 65 minutes the next day you can just record four 15 minute walks
DeleteYes I'd just spotted that too thanks. A lot of messing around but anything for a new badge or two 😅
DeleteIt'll be a challenge by itself to plan every day for June and take into consideration the Beat Yesterday badges plus the Weekend Walking, Running badges and the 30 for 30 badge...
DeleteThe idea is fun , but 10 day is messing a lot with anyone training habits, I feel like 7 would have been a good number, so you could sacrifice only one week.I don't feel like changing everything I do to fit in this .
DeleteEnfin de la nouveauté
ReplyDeleteSauf pour Garmin Connect+...
Leur IA pourrait être nettement améliorée
DeleteI don't get the Garmin Trails hike or trail activities. It has to be on a Garmin map? So if you live in any other part of the world (so most of the world!), where there is NO garmin trails, you are screwed?
ReplyDeleteThe trails must be found here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/trails
DeleteI will also have to wait until my country (Sweden) got some trails added.
This is so frustrating...
DeleteAgreed, I'd have much preferred to see trails in most countries before this was rolled out, or at least a timeline for adding the rest of the world!
DeleteI sent an email to Garmin customer service (in Norway) asking when Garmin trails will be available in Norway. Only answer I got was "New regions will be added continuously, but we do not have a time estimate for specific new regions. "
DeleteHow does it work to navigate a garmin trail hike/run?
ReplyDeleteDo i have to send the trail activity to the device? but this requires garmin connect+ subscription, right?
You send the trail to the device. According to the Garmin Trails page you need Connect+ to do that.
DeleteIt also says that you don't need Connect+ to Earn Badges, but some badges require that you download the trail to follow it.
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=fdNpMJupH10OXQsWAyeIuA
I navigated a trail today via my Enduro 3 and I did not receive the Hiker badge. Not sure why but interested if anyone gets it to work.
Delete@Chad. Just to verify the requirements: You got Connect+ and you sent a Garmin Trail trail to your watch?
DeleteI've seen reports about this issue and that they had to contact Garmin support to get the badge.
Yes, navigated with only the watch and I have Connect+. I sent an email to support and will report back.
Deletehttps://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/19303732736
Product support did issue me the Hiker badge, FYI. Not sure if the future 5/10/25 badges will unlock automatically or not.
Deletethe badges for reviews work without subscription to garmin+. sadly you can not send the trails without subscription to your device. any workaround?
ReplyDeleteApparently you can use the (free) Garmin Explorer app to sync trails to your device if you don't have a subscription. This is according to comment #76 at https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2025/05/garmin-launches-trails-new-garmin-connect-feature.html
Deleteand you get the badges for these trails?
DeleteGarmin should have stated up front that it was Connect+ and I would not have wasted my time looking in my area, of which there are qyute a few showing. Some areas I have been too previously and were interesting hikes. My watch will not load course, but I thought maybe I could use the 830 in a hike profile, But now we see where Garmin was spending all their development $$, and why any current bugs will NOT be fixed in Connect (free) or any existing devices. I'm soon giving up on Tacx also, it was great in bad weather and Winter, but now I'll go back to watching TV for those rides. I'm not into Alps biking, so the US has kind of gotten a back seat.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, enjoy complaining to no avail.....
in the mobile app, try 'configure the trail' - you get a copy of the trail which probably you can send to your watch. Haven't tried that, but seems like a free option
ReplyDeleteI only see "Custonize Trail" which is Connect+ also. I would actually have enjoyed walking/hiking some of the trails in my area (and I still might do some of them) but I won't pay $6.99/month to get badges and I won't give reviews then either.
ReplyDeleteYou're right - must have missed the c+ aspect...
DeleteDid the June Steps Poduim go away? I went to join it today and it's not showing.
ReplyDeleteNever mind, I found it by using the web instead.
DeleteDo I need to start the Beat yesterday challenges with at least 20m walk/15m run, or are these just random examples in the description and recording 1s on the 1st day will also work?
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing that says it must be a minimum time so 1 second is probably enough. I will test it and log as short as possible and then check if I get any progress. If no progress then I will do 5 minutes.
DeleteAh, yes, we should be able to check it on the 1st June. Although after having a 2nd thought, it's not that much of a difference. The bigger problem is that I'm also doing the 1mi/day Walks. I guess I'll run (but record it as a Walk) the 1st day to finish it as fast as possible ;) After finishing 10 days of Walk I'll try to do at least the Pro Run badge as well. That will be deffinitely harder with my knees
DeleteI wonder if the Expert and Pro will run at the same time. Garmin has a history of allowing things to overlap. Because I'm doing the timed walk other stuff also, I want to get the Expert to have the 5th day lineup with the Weekend 3 mile walk. The Pro will have to wait since I don't want to keep adding 5 min on top of that. That will take some planning.
DeleteThe trouble I see with the "beat yesterday" badges is for anybody who tries to do a 30-minute activity every day for the repeatable "30 for 30" badge. If you use a walk for this then day one is 30 minutes and day ten is a 75-minute walk minimum.
ReplyDelete75 minutes of walking is not a lot. It is longer than usual, but not a lot. The easiest solution is just to not use walking for the 30 for 30 challenge. Any activity will count. Even meditation. So, you can sit still for 30 minutes a day to get the badge :-)
DeleteI agree, but if you want to also do the Weekend Walking then the PRO will be at least 3 miles a day AFTER you do the Weekend walk because that runs on the 6-8 day of the month, if you walk every day. So even if you manage to start the PRO on the 1st you will be OK until maybe the 8th (last Weekend day) then you have 2 more 3 mile days. And We don't know if the Expert and Pro overlap. But what if I start the Expert on the 1st and manage to make the 5th day fall on the 6th for Weekend walk. When can I really start the PRO without having the Weekend time count. Probably not the day after the Weekend Walk. I'm waiting to see if the Pro challenge starts when you join. If so then I could start it on the day after the Weekend. If it reverts to the beginning of the month, then I can't really start it until 14 days after the Weekend walk.
DeleteAnd I do walk at least 1 mile timed every day, for the all the other walking related badges. The 30-30 is picked up cycling or something else. Garmin finally made a walking challenge that is tough. I like the challenge, both in figuring it out and what it is going to take to complete it.
DeleteThe beat yesterday badges work on time, not on distance. You don't have to walk/run at the same pace every day. So after your 3mi weekend walk badge (walked on regular walk pace) you can do the other 2 days much slower, just walk the necessary amount of time.
DeleteKLS, not sure how you came up with the "14 days after the Weekend walk". You only need 1 day in between. And actually it's not even 1 day, it's 0 days in between. For the 1st N days you increase it by 5 mins every day, then on day N+1 you do a 1 second walk. That will reset the counter (for both the expert and the pro IMHO). But I think the 2 will overlap, so you can do: 0, 5,10,15,20,25, 30, 35, 40, 45. On the 5th day you'll see that you get the expert, and on the 10th day the pro. And don't worry, because you'll see on the 1st 5 days, that it counts towards both. And if not, then just decide on the 6th day if you want to do 25 minutes or 0 (meaning 1 second).
DeleteTo me that's not the point of the challenge. But sure, you can do it any way that suits your style. I'm only in competition with myself. Someone could just stand still and swing their arm if that's all that's needed, and probably some will do that.
DeleteWhere is the problem? If I finally run 1 hour on the 10th day and walk 1 hour!? You can really do that - can't you?! ... and the days before, a good training for the final!!! ... and running or walking don't even have to overlap, it's time for the whole month!!!
DeleteBTW if you do the beat yesterday badges, then I recommend to try the Goal Countdown datafield: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/27c9dfd6-df44-4f19-ba10-cb529620f5d0 . You can set every day how many minutes you need to walk and it'll notify you when you reached it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, but I have my own Monthly Spread sheet to keep track of times and where I'm at for all my schedules.
DeleteAbout the reset. I don't think it works that way. For example it you do day 1 at 30 mins, Day 2 at 20 mins. you can do Day 3 at 35 mins for the 2nd day of the challenge as long as it's within the 7 consecitive days (Expert example).
ReplyDeleteGoing to be an interesting month. And of course these are Walk only not Hiking, and for those doing C+ Hiking challenges, that will be tough.
DeleteAh, yes, you're right, But still you don't need 14 days IMHO, because after N days you still should be able to decrease it on the next day. And you're right that for a while it'll look like you're still able to do it, because you can have a few days with less (or no) walk, but you don't need to wait for 2 weeks. Of course it also depends on how Garmin implemented the algorithm... They can even have bugs. But In the past when I turned to customer support about some bug (I was supposed to get a badge) I got the badge the next day, so I'm optimistic.
DeleteFête des bateaux dragons est paru sous connect
ReplyDeleteThank you. Database is updated!
DeleteIs there a way to access the trail reviews from the Garmin Connect web interface or do you have to use the app on your phone?
ReplyDeleteYou can use Garmin Connect Web.
DeleteI can't find it in the Web interface - looking for trail reviews
DeleteDon't worry - found it under Training and Planning. I was trying to get to it via Connect+ tab
DeleteHi. How can I take part in a challenge without sharing the activity? The distance is not visible by me...
ReplyDeleteWhich challenge? Most challenges don't require that you share your activities.
DeleteThese are the group challenges in a group i am a member of. I am the whole time on 0.00 km.
ReplyDeleteYou have to share your activities with the group.
DeleteSo sharing the activity is necessary? Not possible without sharing?
DeleteYou must change privacy setting to share with "Connections and groups". Why do you want to be in a group challenge? I think you can get the Members only bagde without sharing your activities.
DeleteCreate your own group with people you can share your activities with.
I see other members of the same challenge who do have more then 0 km but I cannot see their activities. And I am wondering how it is possible.
DeleteAndy, I did my 1st walk activity for June, and I see I got my 1st day both in the expert and in the pro badge. But for some reason in the expert it is colored yellow instead of green. Not a big deal, but maybe you can see why it happens and can improve it.
ReplyDeleteSorry: expert is green, pro is yellow
DeleteYou are less than 2 days ahead. So, yellow is correct.
DeleteI logged the minimum time on my run and walk today. Less than 1 second didn't work. The activity must be at least 1 second or longer.
Hmmm, but then why is the expert green? Even there I am only 1 day ahead. The only difference between the two is the total length, which I guess is 5 vs 10 or 7 vs 14, but either way, it looks not logical that the two are not the same color. Why does the total length have an effect on the color?
DeleteAndy do you think a day with zero walking will reset the Beat Yesterday time?
DeleteSo June 1 to 5 you can walk 5,10,15,20,25 and get the Expert.
June 6 walk 3 miles for that badge.
June 7 no walk resets time?
June 8-11 walk 5,10,15,20 gets Pro?
You are 4.9 days ahead in the Expert challenges according to the calculations.
DeleteLook in the ahead days column. The page will calculate how much you must do each day and then calculate how much you are ahead or behind.
The issue with these challenges is that the calculations doesn't know that you only got 7 or 14 days to complete them. It only looks at the end date and use that together with the current progress value and the target. The very specific time limit can't be fetched.
@CarlClw. No, I don't think so. The description says that each walk must be increased with 5 minutes. So, the previous walk will be the previous walk no matter if you skip a day or four in the 14 day period.
DeleteI was thinking about doing some of my standard runs (like 10-15km) but split it per 5min, 10min, 15min, etc. Then reupload it to connect each day and change date to current day. That should count for both expert and pro run. In the meantime, when doing other and longer runs, I would postpone the date after this challenge (like 11.6 and later). This way it should not cancel counter for Beat yesterday badges, right?
ReplyDeleteActually I dont need to reupload, I will just change date of each of that segment. Hopefully this will work.
ReplyDeleteHi Everybody. It seems that the badge Photo Share does not work with Multi Sport activities. I used it to have a walk with 5 minutes more than yesterday and switched the activity to hiking to get the Beat Yesterday Expert Walk 2025 badge (this seems to work). Later I added 2 photos but it did not count for the badge for Photo Share. And yes I did share the activity. I got already al like for it.
ReplyDeleteThat is correct. Multisport activities do not work with the photo share challenge.
DeleteHi. Was there any official announcement about the Beat Yesterday Expert(Pro) Walk(Run) 2025 badges? Will they be every month? If so, why is there no June in the title. If these badges are once a year (there is 2025 in the title), then why is the time limited to June 1-30 only.
ReplyDelete
